Destroys Surfboard at Waikiki
The firefighters quickly intervened to control the fire after 15 minutes, then extinguished it completely after 45 minutes. But the damage was done since the fire had just reduced the entire surfboard rack in Kuhio Beach to smoke. It is estimated that this public space for storing boards close to the ocean contained 525 boards at the time of the tragedy!
The fire also affected the walls and windows of the Moana Surfrider, the oldest hotel in Waikiki. If the damage is only material, the premises that left their boards here are nevertheless devastated. Many surfers regret the loss of irreplaceable collection boards or the “magic board” that their shaper had just made.
